One project that students really enjoyed and did exceptionally well in was the Master Painting project. Students chose a favorite painting by a well-known artist and were challenged to recreate it using the grid method. Through this process, they developed a deeper appreciation for the skill, technique, and patience it takes to create a painting. They also learned about color mixing, color matching, and how to closely observe value, proportion, and detail.

In the Monochromatic Painting project, students explored color mixing, values, shadows, and the color spectrum. By working within a single color palette, they learned how to create depth, contrast, and form using tints, tones, and shades rather than relying on multiple colors. To help them focus on color instead of drawing accuracy, students first traced their reference image using carbon paper. This allowed them to concentrate solely on understanding the color relationships and value shifts within the painting.
